HJC was appointed by St. Bernard's Church to undertake the refurbishment and restoration of the building's external timber cladding following extensive deterioration caused by weather exposure and age.
Upon inspection, the existing timber cladding and underlying plywood substrate had suffered significant rot and were beyond repair. Our team carefully removed all defective materials and carried out a comprehensive replacement programme, installing new treated timber cladding and marine-grade plywood to provide a durable, weather-resistant solution capable of withstanding the demands of the local climate.
In addition to the cladding refurbishment, we completed a range of external maintenance works, including repairs and refurbishment to the property's rainwater goods. Existing downpipes and guttering were inspected, repaired, and restored where required to ensure effective drainage and protect the building fabric from future water ingress.
Throughout the project, HJC worked closely with church representatives to ensure minimal disruption to the day-to-day operation of the premises while maintaining the highest standards of workmanship and safety. The completed works have significantly improved both the appearance and longevity of the building, providing a durable and low-maintenance solution for years to come.
This Nail Salon fit out project was undertaken by Handmade Joinery & Construction for Pretty Polished in Glengormely.
HJC was appointed to deliver the complete fit-out and refurbishment of Pretty Polished's new salon premises in the heart of Glengormley. Working closely with the owner from the outset, we provided a full design, construction, and project management service to transform an empty commercial unit into a modern, welcoming, and highly functional beauty salon.
The project began with a complete strip-out of the existing space, allowing us to redesign the internal layout to maximise both customer experience and operational efficiency. We developed detailed floor plans and 3D visualisations, enabling the client to fully understand and refine the design before construction commenced.
Our team carried out the entire carpentry and joinery package, including the construction of new stud partitions, plasterboarding, door linings, internal doors, skirting boards, architraves, and flooring throughout. We also installed a bespoke kitchen area and completed a range of high-quality finishing works, including decorative wall panelling, tiling, and a custom-built reception desk designed specifically for the salon.
A standout feature of the project was the manufacture and installation of bespoke nail stations, incorporating curved end panels and contemporary ribbed detailing to create a luxurious and professional environment. Every element was carefully considered to complement the salon's branding and provide a practical workspace for staff while delivering a premium experience for clients.
Through careful planning, skilled craftsmanship, and comprehensive project management, HJC successfully delivered a stylish commercial space that reflects the quality and professionalism of the Pretty Polished brand.
HJC was appointed to undertake the extensive renovation and reconfiguration of this residential property, transforming it into a modern four-bedroom serviced apartment designed to provide comfortable, high-quality accommodation for guests.
The project involved significant structural and internal alterations to optimise the layout and maximise the available living space. Structural works included the reinforcement and support of the existing staircase, ensuring the integrity of the building while accommodating the revised floor plan. New door linings and associated carpentry works were installed throughout, helping to create a modern and consistent finish across the property.
A key objective of the refurbishment was to create a spacious, open-plan living environment. Through careful planning and skilled workmanship, the property was transformed to include a bright and welcoming living area seamlessly connected to a contemporary kitchen, providing a practical and sociable space for guests.
HJC completed a comprehensive package of joinery and finishing works throughout the apartment, including bespoke bathroom joinery, decorative wall panelling, laminate flooring, skirting boards, architraves, and internal door installations. Every element was completed with attention to detail to ensure a durable, high-quality finish suitable for the demands of serviced accommodation.
The completed project successfully transformed a traditional residential property into a stylish and functional serviced apartment, combining modern design, practical living spaces, and quality craftsmanship to create an attractive environment for short and long-term guests alike.
HJC was appointed by St. Mary's on the Hill Parish to carry out a programme of restoration and refurbishment works aimed at preserving and enhancing key external elements of the church property.
A significant aspect of the project involved the restoration of the chapel's timber entrance doors, which had suffered deterioration due to age and prolonged exposure to the elements. Our team carefully dismantled the affected sections, removing rotted and delaminated timber components while retaining as much of the original character as possible. The internal door panels were replaced using marine-grade plywood for improved durability and weather resistance, and bespoke timber mouldings were manufactured to accurately replicate the existing architectural detailing.
In addition to the door restoration works, HJC carried out repairs to the external soffits, which had been affected by moisture ingress and timber decay. Damaged sections were replaced and refurbished to restore the integrity of the building fabric and prevent further deterioration.
To complete the project, comprehensive preparation and redecoration works were undertaken to the chapel doors, railings, soffits, and fascia boards. These finishing works not only improved the overall appearance of the property but also provided long-term protection against weathering and environmental exposure.
As part of the wider refurbishment programme, HJC also supplied and installed new doors for the adjoining playgroup facilities, improving both functionality and appearance while maintaining consistency with the surrounding buildings.
The project was fully managed and coordinated by HJC from start to finish, ensuring all works were completed to the highest standards of craftsmanship, attention to detail, and respect for the character of this important community building.
